If you’re asking yourself, “Should I become a Norwex Consultant?” I want to tell you something that may surprise you. When I became a Norwex Consultant back in 2009, I was probably not the person anyone would have picked as the obvious future direct-sales leader. I’m naturally a bit of an introvert. I’m definitely a homebody. I had barely even been to home parties, much less considered building a business by doing them.
Oh—and just between us? I don’t even like to clean. I do love a clean house. But there’s a difference. LOL!
And yet, more than 17 years later, becoming a Norwex Consultant is still one of the better decisions I’ve made. Norwex has allowed me to earn an income while raising our four boys, grow in ways I never could have imagined, meet incredible people, travel to some amazing places, and eventually help other consultants create change in their own lives through this business and these products.
But none of that is where my story started.
Back then, I had stepped away from my full-time career as a physical therapist to stay home with our children. We had three boys at the time, and we were living on my hubby’s income. God had always taken good care of us, but our budget was tight. It often felt like there was just a little extra month at the end of the money, if you know what I’m saying.
I knew I could go back to full-time physical therapy, but I was praying for an alternative–something that would allow me to stay home and raise my kiddos while contributing financially to our family.
At the time, I did not realize that Norwex would become an answer to that prayer.
I Was Actually Skeptical About Norwex at First
Here’s another thing you might not expect from someone who has now been with Norwex for more than 17 years: I wasn’t immediately sold on it.
A friend of mine had gone to her first Norwex party and called me afterward absolutely raving about the products. But I was already using what I thought was really high-quality microfiber. I’d spent more than $80 on it (back in 2006 when that was a LOT of money), so this wasn’t the cheap stuff. I remember thinking, Okay…how much better could this Norwex really be?
Naturally, with three boys in the house, the first Norwex product I bought was the toilet brush. Priorities, people, priorities. #boymom
Then my friend came to visit and brought her Norwex cloths with her. Once I was able to compare them to what I’d already been using, I was blown away. It took everything to the next level for me.
And here’s something you should know about me: I’m a quality girl. I don’t necessarily want the cheapest thing. I want something that’s going to last and do what it says it’s going to do. When I experienced the difference for myself, I had one of those moments where I thought, People need to know about this.
There was another piece that mattered to me, too. Once I became a mom, I had started looking much more closely at what we were bringing into our home. I was already trying to make greener choices and reduce some of the unnecessary chemicals we were using around our kids. The idea that I could teach people a different way to clean—using quality microfiber and mechanical cleaning rather than automatically reaching for a chemical cleaner for every surface—made so much sense to me, and with my medical background, having silver-embedded fiber made so much sense to my brain, too!
I wasn’t thinking, I want to be a salesperson.
I was thinking, I can teach people this. I need to teach people this. They need to know.
That distinction mattered to me then, and it still matters to me today.
I Didn’t Feel Ready. I Did It Scared Anyway.
I think sometimes we assume the people who succeed in a business opportunity must have started out confident. They must have been naturally outgoing. They must have known how to sell. They must have had a huge network.
Nope.
Remember, I was an introverted homebody who had attended maybe one home party and hosted one in my entire life. Our budget was tight enough that I wasn’t exactly hanging out at parties buying things all the time! But my friend told me something that really resonated with me: they weren’t looking for salespeople. They were looking for educators—people willing to teach others a different way of cleaning.
That I could wrap my head around.
So I jumped in. I did it scared. I did it messy. I followed what the leaders ahead of me taught me to do, which at the time meant getting in front of people and demonstrating the products. I started doing two in-home shows a week and simply kept telling people about what I had discovered.
And something really interesting happened.
People would use the products and have the same kind of reaction I’d had: Where has this been all my life?
That gave me confidence—not necessarily because I suddenly became confident in myself, but because I became confident in what I was sharing.
Can You Actually Make Money as a Norwex Consultant?

This is obviously one of the questions you should ask if you’re considering becoming an Independent Norwex Consultant. After all, if you’re looking at this as a business, you probably want it to actually produce some income!
My first financial goal was not huge. I wanted to make an extra $500 a month.
At the time, I wanted to buy more organic food for our family, but organic food was significantly more expensive and it just wasn’t fitting into our budget. I remember thinking, If I could just make an extra $500 a month, that would be super helpful.
So I went out and did my first two parties.
My commission from those first two parties was about $500.
I can still remember what that felt like because it was the moment when I realized, Wait a minute. This could actually fill a financial gap for our family.
Then I remember thinking, What if I could make $2,000 a month? Wouldn’t that be incredible?
As I continued consistently sharing the products and building my customer base, that became a reality for me, too. Eventually, I began inviting other people to do this with me, teaching them what I had learned, and my business grew into leadership.
Now, this is where I want to be very clear: my results are my results, not a promise of what someone else will earn. Your results in a Norwex business will depend on what you personally choose to do with it, the activity you put in, the skills you develop, the customers you serve and, if you choose to build a team, the leadership you develop.
NORWEX INCOME DISCLOSURE STATEMENT
But I also think it’s important to understand that you don’t have to build some giant team before you can earn money. Retailing products to customers is part of the business from the beginning. If you’d like the current details about consultant earnings, starter options, activity requirements and how the compensation plan works, I’ve put those practical questions together in my Norwex Consultant FAQs rather than trying to cram all of them into this article.
Do I Have to Be Good at Sales to Become a Norwex Consultant?
This may be one of the biggest misconceptions I hear, especially from women who tell me, “But I’m not a salesperson.”
Neither was I. What I discovered was that there is a big difference between trying to convince someone to buy something they don’t want and educating someone about a solution that has genuinely helped you.
I wasn’t walking into people’s homes thinking, How can I sell these people something? I was excited to show them what I’d learned. I could demonstrate how the products worked, explain why I had changed the way I was cleaning my own home, and then let them decide for themselves.
Over time, of course, I learned sales skills. I learned how to follow up. I learned how to communicate better. I learned how to lead. I learned how to run a business. And thank goodness I didn’t wait until I already knew all of those things before I started!
So if you’re thinking, I couldn’t do this because I’m not good at sales, I’d ask a different question:
Are you willing to learn how to share something you genuinely believe in?
It’s a completely different question, and it is why I’m still here seventeen years later. I would feel guilty NOT sharing these incredible products and amazing business opportunity and incredible Norwex mission with others.
Do I Have to Do Norwex Parties?
My business was originally built by doing two in-home shows a week. That’s simply the truth of my story. It gave me a way to consistently get the products in front of new people, let them experience the difference and meet people outside my immediate circle. But in 2009, social media wasn’t what it is today. I certainly wasn’t building a YouTube channel or doing Facebook parties back then… I didn’t even know how to use Zoom yet. There weren’t all the virtual and digital tools consultants have available now.
But even now, my team continues to have amazing success with in-person demos because thankfully humans haven’t changed much since 2009 and they still love getting together with friends, learning and sharing something new and beneficial with each other, and love eating and drinking something yummy. So, can you build this business many different ways now? Yes. Do I still do and love in-person demos? Yes. 🙂 It is required? No.
The methods of sharing have grown over the years, but the principle hasn’t: people can’t fall in love with something they don’t know exists. So whether you share through personal conversations, demonstrations, social media, online events, referrals, vendor events, in-person gatherings or some combination of those things, a business requires sharing.
You don’t have to build exactly the way I built. You do have to be willing to tell people about what you do.
What If I’m Introverted or This Feels Outside My Comfort Zone?
Hi. Have we met? 😅
I really want you to hear this part because I think we can look at someone 17 years into something and assume she must have always been comfortable doing it.
I wasn’t.
Becoming a Norwex Consultant took me outside my comfort zone. Talking to people took practice. Leading people took practice. There have been plenty of things over the years that I had to do before I felt completely ready to do them.
That’s why the phrase “I did it scared” means something to me. You don’t have to wait until you’re fearless. You don’t have to wait until you’re completely confident. And you certainly don’t need to have your entire future business figured out before you begin. You need to be willing to take the next step and learn.
And in truth, I have Norwex to thank for helping me grow as a public speaker all these years later! I didn’t realize yet that it would eventually lead me into writing a book, coaching business owners, speaking on stages internationally and so much more. It has been the perfect growth platform for me… and all along the journey, I have gotten to earn income. After paying a university a LOT of money to get my first Physical Therapy degree, one of the things I especially love about this business is that you truly get to earn as you learn.
How Much Time Does a Norwex Business Take?
This is one of those questions where the answer really is: What do you want your business to do for you?
Someone who wants to earn a little extra spending money or offset the cost of products is going to approach the business differently than someone who wants to create a consistent part-time income. And someone who wants to build a substantial business and leadership organization will need to treat it differently again.
One of the things I have loved most about Norwex is the flexibility it gave me while raising our boys. I wasn’t looking for another job that required me to choose between earning income and being the mom I wanted to be. I wanted something I could build around our family.
But flexible does not mean effortless. My business grew because I consistently took action. I showed up. I shared the products. I followed up. I learned. I invited other people to do it with me. And then I taught them what I knew.
You get to decide how big you want to build and how much time you’re willing to invest—but I’d encourage you to make those two decisions together. Your expectations for the income should make sense with the activity you’re willing to put into creating it.
What Would You Want This Business to Do for Your Life?
This may actually be a better question than, “Should I become a Norwex Consultant?”
Because why are you considering it?
For me, it started with organic groceries.
Seriously.
I wasn’t sitting there in 2009 imagining the business I would eventually build. I was thinking about an extra $500 a month and what that could change for our family.
But there was something else happening at the same time.
Before Norwex, Willie and I had sat down and tried to create a vision for our life. We knew we didn’t want to feel financially strapped forever, so we started dreaming about what we wanted our future to look like.
And this was before Google and Canva, y’all. We literally cut pictures out of catalogs and glued them onto paper to create a vision board. (And if you know an engineer, I do believe that this was a small miracle of God that this even happened!)
Years later, after I had been building my Norwex business, we found that old vision board. It was absolutely mind-blowing to look at it and realize how much of what we had put on that piece of paper had become reality for our family.
Not because we glued pictures to a piece of paper and magically manifested them. Because we created a vision—and then consistently took action toward it. For me, Norwex became one of the vehicles that helped us do that.
So before you ask how much someone else makes with Norwex, I’d ask yourself:
What would I want this business to make possible for me?
Maybe $500 a month would make a meaningful difference. Maybe your goal is paying off debt, taking your family on vacation without putting it on a credit card, staying home with your children, adding to retirement, having breathing room in your budget, or eventually replacing another source of income.
Your answer doesn’t have to look like mine. But I think you should take a moment to write down YOUR answer.
What Should I Ask Myself Before Becoming a Norwex Consultant?
If you were sitting across the table from me asking, “Sonya, do you think I should do this?” I wouldn’t start by trying to convince you.
I’d start by asking you some questions:
- Do I genuinely like and believe in the products? It’s a whole lot easier to share something you already love.
- Why am I considering becoming a Norwex Consultant? Is it additional income? Flexibility? A product discount? Community? A bigger long-term business goal? A strong desire to let others know about these products?
- What would meaningful income look like for me? Don’t just say “more money.” What would $500, $1,000 or $2,000 a month actually change?
- Am I willing to learn? You do not need to know everything when you start, but you do need to be coachable. Finding someone who is implementing and is where you want to grow can be a huge asset as you build your business.
- Am I willing to consistently share and follow up? A business doesn’t grow simply because you signed up.
- Am I willing to do some things before they feel completely comfortable? Growth tends to live right outside that comfort zone.
- If I really gave this a try, what might be different in my life a year from now?
And maybe one more:
If I don’t try it, am I going to keep wondering what might have happened if I had?
Does It Matter Who I Join Norwex With?
I believe it can. Your sponsor can’t build your business for you—and you should be cautious of anyone who makes you think they can. But having someone who will answer your questions, help you understand what to do first, provide you with the resources, teach you what’s working, encourage you through the uncomfortable parts and provide a community where you can learn from others can make a really big difference.
Is it essential for success in Norwex? Absolutely not. You can have the success you determine no matter your upline leader. Might it make the journey a bit easier? Possibly.
One of my favorite parts of this business after all these years is helping other consultants grow. I love taking someone from “I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing” to “Okay. I know my next step.”
You don’t need someone to do the work for you. You need someone who can help equip you to do the work well. It’s nice to have a leader who consistently shows up for his or her team and generously shares resources to help you on your business-building journey.
If you’re considering joining my Planet Green Team, I’ve put together a much more detailed Norwex Consultant FAQ page where you can learn about the current joining options, consultant requirements, compensation, training and support and the practical side of getting started.
Is Being a Norwex Consultant Worth It?
For me? Absolutely.
But I think “worth it” is such a personal question.
I can look back at more than 17 years and see income, yes. But I also see the ability to be present while raising our four boys. I see relationships I never would have had. I see leadership skills I had to grow into. I see opportunities and experiences I couldn’t have imagined when I started.
Most of all, I see people.
Customers whose lives became a little easier because they learned a different way to care for their homes. Consultants who were able to create income for their families. Leaders who discovered abilities in themselves they didn’t know they had.
That’s why I’ve stayed. I genuinely love the mission behind what I do: helping people save time, helping families save money, helping people create homes with fewer unnecessary chemicals, and helping other consultants create income through sharing those solutions. Those pieces still matter deeply to me today.
I have also stayed because I love the Norwex compensation plan. I love that new consultants have the opportunity to begin earning retail income right away as they implement the training, share the products and build their new skills. I also love that the comp plan rewards leaders for helping others grow into success and leadership. That makes this business very win-win-win!
Would I Become a Norwex Consultant Again?
Knowing what I know now? Yes.
Not because every day has been easy. Not because I’ve never had a frustrating season. Not because there is some magical business where you sign up and money appears.
I’d do it again because I know what saying yes made possible in my life.
The woman who started this business in 2009 couldn’t see 17 years down the road. She couldn’t see the team she’d eventually lead, the people she’d meet, the places she’d go or the ways she’d personally grow.
She could only see the next step. And she took that step scared. And I’ve learned in life that often, that’s all that is needed. To take that next step. Sometimes we don’t see the whole staircase yet… but we can see the next step to say “yes” to.
What Do You Have to Lose—and What Might You Gain?
If you’re here because you’ve been asking yourself, “Should I become a Norwex Consultant?”, maybe you don’t need to have the next 17 years figured out today.
Maybe you simply need enough information to decide whether taking the first step makes sense for you.
Learn about the products. Look at the business. Ask your questions. Think about what you’d want the income to do for your life. Be realistic about the work you’re willing to put into it. And then make your decision. Because the question I asked at the end of my video is the same one I’d ask you here:
What do you have to lose—and what might you gain?
