I’m excited that you’ve received your Norwex products! And I want to be sure you know how to use Norwex products now that they’ve arrived. We want you to be thrilled with your products—and if you’re like me, sometimes a little refresher course on how to use them and care for them is in order! 🙂
I’ve been using, sharing and teaching about Norwex since 2009, and one thing I’ve learned is that Norwex really doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, one of the things I love most about it is how SIMPLE cleaning can become once you understand the basics.
So if you’re wondering how to use Norwex products, which Norwex cloth to grab, whether your cloth should be wet or dry, how much laundry detergent to use, or how to take care of your microfiber, you’re in the right place.
Let’s put those products into action!
IT’S CLEANING TIME!!!
There are two things I want to make sure of:
- That you are LOVING your Norwex products!
- That you know how to use them and where to find answers when you have questions.
If you just received your first Norwex order and you’re looking at all those cloths, cleaners and laundry products thinking, Okay… NOW WHAT?—I’ve got you! Let’s start with the basics.
One of the biggest differences with Norwex is that you don’t need a different chemical cleaner for every surface in your home. For much of your everyday cleaning, you can start with Norwex microfiber + water + mechanical cleaning. My favorite place to begin is with what I have lovingly called “Bert & Ernie” for years: the EnviroCloth and Window Cloth.
Use a damp EnviroCloth to clean the surface, then use a dry Window Cloth to polish surfaces like glass, mirrors, stainless steel and other shiny surfaces. That’s it! No need to make cleaning harder than it needs to be.
Norwex does have specialty cleaners for the jobs where water and microfiber aren’t enough—and you’ll see several of my favorites below—but understanding how to use the microfiber is the foundation, then we’ll talk about Norwex enzymatic cleaning.
How Do You Use Norwex Cloths?
One of the most common questions I hear is simply, “How do I use my Norwex cloths?”
For everyday cleaning, wet your EnviroCloth with water, wring it out well and fold it into fourths. This gives you multiple cleaning surfaces and makes it easy to move to a clean section of the cloth as you work.
For polishing surfaces such as windows, mirrors and stainless steel, follow with your dry Window Cloth.
Your Norwex cloth does NOT need to be dripping wet. In fact, more water isn’t necessarily better. Damp and well wrung out is usually exactly what you want.
And yes—some Norwex microfiber products are designed to be used dry, too. The Dusting Mitt and dry mop pad, for example, are great examples of microfiber doing its job without adding water (the fibers create a natural static cling to suck up the dust, pet hair, etc).
Do I Need Cleaner With Norwex Microfiber?
For most jobs, no! That’s one of the biggest adjustments for people who are new to Norwex.
For many everyday cleaning jobs, water and Norwex microfiber are all I use. But that doesn’t mean I never use a cleaner.
Grease, soap scum, mineral buildup, ovens, toilets, laundry, dishes and other specialty jobs may call for a little more cleaning power. That’s where Norwex specialty cleaners can come in.
I like to start simple and add the appropriate cleaner only when the job calls for it.
How Do I Wash My Norwex Cloths?
Taking care of your microfiber is important, and thankfully it is also SUPER simple.
My three basic rules are:
No fabric softener or dryer sheets.
No bleach.
Avoid washing microfiber with linty loads.
Otherwise?
Wash them in the washer. Dry them in the dryer.
If your cloths have started to smell, feel stiff, aren’t absorbing the way they used to or you think they may have buildup, they may need a Norwex Deep Clean.
I’ve put together an entire updated guide explaining exactly how I care for mine:

How to Use Norwex Laundry Products
Laundry is another area where I get LOTS of questions.
And apparently I’m not the only one hearing them, because some of the most common questions people search online are:
How much Norwex laundry detergent do I use?
Can I use Norwex laundry detergent in an HE washing machine?
What detergent can I use with Norwex cloths?
So let’s tackle those!
How Much Norwex Laundry Detergent Should I Use?
Norwex laundry detergents are concentrated, so this is one of those times when more is definitely not necessarily better!
The correct amount depends on which Norwex laundry detergent you’re using, your machine, load size, soil level and sometimes even your water.
Norwex currently offers several laundry detergent choices, including PowerZyme Laundry Detergent, Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent, Liquid Laundry Detergent and Eco-Wash Laundry Detergent Strips.
Because formulas and directions can change, I recommend following the current directions on the package for the specific detergent you’re using rather than relying on an old measurement you may find online.
How to Use Norwex PowerZyme Laundry Detergent
PowerZyme has become one of my favorite additions to the Norwex laundry line.
It is a highly concentrated, enzyme-based laundry detergent formulated with four enzymes to help break down stains, odors and everyday buildup. Norwex currently describes it as appropriate for everyday laundry as well as caring for Norwex microfiber.
Use the amount directed on your current PowerZyme package for your load and washing conditions. We use about 3/4 of the scoop at our house. And if you’ve watched my newer Norwex laundry detergent video, you’ve seen why I’m such a fan of what enzymes can do!
Can I Use Norwex Laundry Detergent in an HE Washing Machine?
Yes—Norwex has laundry detergent options that can be used with HE washing machines. Again, follow the current directions for the specific Norwex detergent you’re using. Don’t assume that the amount used for one Norwex detergent is the same as another. Highly concentrated detergent is one of those places where you don’t get bonus points for adding extra. 🙂
What Detergent Can I Use With Norwex Cloths?

You do NOT have to use only Norwex detergent to wash Norwex cloths. If you’re using another laundry detergent, I recommend choosing one without ingredients that can coat the microfiber and interfere with its performance.
The big things I want you to remember are still:
No fabric softener. No dryer sheets. No bleach.
And if you want my complete microfiber laundry routine, head over to my Norwex Cloth Care & Deep Cleaning Guide.
How to Use Norwex Dryer Balls
This one is REALLY complicated… Just kidding. 😂
Throw the full set in the dryer and dry as usual! And that’s it. Leave the dryer balls in your dryer so they’re there when you need them to replace dryer sheets. (Be sure to google “toxicity of fabric softener” if you’re not quite sure why you’re giving those products up!)
And remember—do not add fabric softener or dryer sheets when you’re washing/drying your Norwex microfiber. I love dryer balls because this is such a simple swap. Norwex’s current Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls are reusable wool dryer balls designed to help naturally soften fabrics and can help reduce drying time.
How to Use Norwex Products in the Kitchen
The kitchen is one of my FAVORITE places to put Norwex to work because it’s a perfect example of starting with microfiber and water and then adding specialty products where you need them. For everyday wiping, I love Norwex microfiber. For glass and shiny surfaces, use your Window Cloth to polish.
Then for the jobs that need more, Norwex has products for dishes, dishwashers, grease, food-contact surfaces and those harder-to-clean kitchen messes.
Some of the products I currently use and teach about include:
BioZyme Dish Soap Concentrate
Multi-Purpose Hard Surface Cleaner
UltraZyme Dishwasher Powder
Rinse Aid
Cleaning Paste
SpiriSponge and Spirinett
Kitchen Cloths and Counter Cloths
Rather than trying to explain an entire kitchen in a few paragraphs, I walk you through it in my updated Norwex Your Kitchen video above.
How to Use the Norwex Mop
Another question I hear all the time is how to use the Norwex Mop.
I generally like to dry mop first to pick up dust, hair and loose debris. Then switch to your wet mop pad for damp mopping.
You do NOT need your wet mop pad soaking wet. Wet it, wring out the excess water and attach it to the mop base.
And there are now LOTS of different mop pads and attachments—what I like to call your “moptions.” 🙂

How to Use Norwex Products in the Bathroom
Your bathroom is another place where Norwex microfiber can dramatically simplify your routine. For most of the everyday bathroom surfaces, start with damp microfiber. Many of us like to color-code our cloths so we always know which are our Bathroom Norwex Cloths.
For mirrors and shiny surfaces, polish with your Window Cloth.
For jobs like toilets, tubs, showers, soap scum and mineral buildup, I use the Norwex products designed for those tougher jobs.
Stay tuned, because my completely updated bathroom and toilet-cleaning video is coming soon!
How to Use Norwex Specialty Cleaners
Sometimes water and Norwex silver-embedded cloths are all you need. Sometimes they’re not.
And that’s okay!
I use Norwex specialty cleaners when the JOB calls for them.
Products like Cleaning Paste, Descaler, Oven & Grill Cleaner and other targeted cleaners are designed for specific cleaning challenges. One of the things I teach is not to reach automatically for a bottle of cleaner every time you see dirt—but also not to make your microfiber work unnecessarily hard when there’s a product designed for the job. I’ll be updating this video soon, but this will get you started on understanding our enzymatic cleaning and the Norwex Specialty Cleaner line.

How to Use Norwex Personal Care Products
Norwex isn’t just for cleaning your house!
One of the simplest products to start with is the Body and Face Pack, which can be used with water for everyday face and body cleansing. Norwex also has a growing personal-care line, so always check the directions for your specific product. Their newest skincare line has given me amazing results in the health and appearance of my skin (50 year old skin here)!
Which Norwex Products Should I Start With?
If you’re reading all of this and thinking:
“Okay, Sonya… but which products do I actually NEED?”
I’ve got you covered there, too. 🙂 You do NOT need to buy every Norwex product at once.
Start with the basics. Learn how to use them. Then add the products that solve the cleaning challenges you actually have in YOUR home.
I’ve put together another guide specifically for that:

Frequently Asked Questions About How to Use Norwex Products
How do you use Norwex products?
For many everyday cleaning jobs, start with damp Norwex microfiber and water. Use the appropriate specialty cleaner when the job requires more than microfiber and water. The EnviroCloth and Window Cloth are two of my favorite products for learning the basic Norwex cleaning method.
Do you use Norwex cloths wet or dry?
It depends on the cloth and the job. I generally use an EnviroCloth damp for cleaning and a Window Cloth dry for polishing. Products like the Dusting Mitt, Envirwand, and dry mop pad are designed to work beautifully dry, although you can spritz them lightly with water if you choose.
How wet should my Norwex cloth be?
For most everyday cleaning, your microfiber should be damp—not dripping wet. Wet it thoroughly and wring it out well before cleaning.
Do I need cleaner with Norwex cloths?
For many everyday cleaning jobs, no. I frequently use just water and Norwex cloths. For grease, mineral buildup, soap scum, ovens, toilets and other specialty jobs, I use the appropriate Norwex specialty cleaner.
Can I use Norwex cloths in the washing machine?
Yes! I wash my Norwex microfiber in the washing machine. Avoid bleach and fabric softener, and try not to wash microfiber with linty items.
Can Norwex cloths go in the dryer?
Yes, most Norwex microfiber is dryer-safe. Remember to SKIP the dryer sheets though.
What detergent can I use with Norwex cloths?
You can use Norwex laundry detergent or another suitable detergent that doesn’t leave coatings or residues that can interfere with microfiber. Avoid fabric softener, laundry beads, dryer sheets, and bleach. With that said, if you haven’t tried the Norwex PowerZyme or Liquid Laundry Detergent yet, try it. I believe you’ll want to switch over ALL of your laundry to them!
How much Norwex laundry detergent should I use?
It depends on the specific Norwex detergent you’re using. Norwex has multiple concentrated laundry detergent options, so follow the current package directions for your detergent, washer, load and soil level rather than assuming one measurement applies to every formula.
Can I use Norwex laundry detergent in an HE machine?
Norwex offers laundry detergents suitable for HE washing machines. Follow the directions for your specific product and machine.
Are Norwex products septic safe?
Having TWO septic systems- one at our main house and one at our ranch- I know HOW important this is! YES, they are septic safe.
How does Norwex work?
At the heart of Norwex cleaning is high-quality microfiber and mechanical cleaning. Rather than automatically relying on a chemical cleaner for every job, Norwex microfiber physically lifts and removes dirt and debris from surfaces.
If you’d like to understand that better, watch my Norwegian Way video at the top of this page or visit my complete Norwex Basics guide.
